Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences offers a Wi-Fi service to enable the wireless connection of mobile devices. There is comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage in all buildings of the University of Applied Sciences and in selected outdoor areas. A range of SSIDs are offered for the different user groups and usage purposes. These are described in further detail below.
This section looks at the target groups, the usage purposes and how to set up the various SSIDs. The SSIDs listed below are the official SSIDs offered by the University of Applied Sciences. For security reasons, you are not advised to connect to an SSID on campus that is not included in the following list.
The access details consist of a user name and a password. To set up Wi-Fi access, choose the Wi-Fi ‘H-BRS’ in your Wi-Fi settings and enter the user name and password.
The access details vary depending on the user group. Below, the person ‘Joe Bloggs’ is used as an example.
Employees use their university-access user name together with the domain suffix ‘@h-brs.de’ as the user name. The person ‘Joe Bloggs’ would enter the user name ‘joe.bloggs@h-brs.de’. Use your university-access password as the password.
Teaching staff use their university-access user name together with the domain suffix ‘@lehrbeauftragte.h-brs.de’ as the user name. The person ‘Joe Bloggs’ would enter the user name ‘joe.bloggs@lehrbeauftragte.h-brs.de’. Use your university-access password as the password.
PhD students use their university-access user name together with the domain suffix ‘@phd.h-brs.de’ as the user name. The person ‘Joe Bloggs’ would enter the user name ‘joe.bloggs@phd.h-brs.de’. Use your university-access password as the password.
Students use their department abbreviation as the user name. The department abbreviation is made up of the first letter of the first name, the first five letters of the surname, a department number (1-6) and the letter ‘s’ for student.

Students use their email-account password as the password. An exception to this are the students of the Department of Computer Science, who use their departmental WLAN password (FAQ of the Department of Computer Science).
Student organizations (student councils, AStA, StuPa, etc.) use the access data of your university account as username and password.

eduroam enables members of participating institutions to access the Internet. This access can be used at all sites of participating institutions. An overview of all sites can be found on the eduroam-map of the German National Research and Education Network (DFN).
The easyroam service is required in order to log on to the eduroam Wi-Fi. Easyroam is a service provided by the German National Research and Education Network (DFN). The service enables the creation of Wi-Fi profiles with a validity of 6 months to be set up for end devices. The profile needs to be renewed upon expiry of this period.

To log on to the service, search for ‘Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg IDM’ in the list and enter your MIA access details.
A temporary guest access can be issued for guests and events. Employees of the University of Applied Sciences can request guest access using the form Request Wi-Fi guest access (Jira) or at the ServicePoint (ITS). The name of the guest/event and the period of visit/event is required for the application. To ensure a smooth process, please apply for the guest access at least two weeks prior to the period of visit/event.
The issued Wi-Fi guest-access details consist of a user name and a password. To set up the Wi-Fi access, choose the Wi-Fi ‘H-BRS_Guests’ in your Wi-Fi settings and enter the user name and password.
